A JOURNEY THROUGH ARABIA
DAY 1- Birkat Al Mauz & Jebel Akhdar & Nizwa & Al Hamra & Jebel Shams
The tour starts with pickup at 8.00am. From there, we will head to the pretty village of Birkat Al Mauz situated in the foothills of Jebel Akhdar, the Green Mountain.
While in the village, you will be able to enjoy a walk through the nearby oasis and dense date plantations. We will then depart for Jabrin, the finest of Oman’s castles and built in the late 17th century. The castle became a seat of Omani learning and displays the greatest examples of Omani ceiling painting and beautifully executed woodcarvings. The next stop is Misfah, a pretty mountain village with stone dwellings still in existence, and then on to the terrace farming village of Wadi Ghul. Our next stop takes us to Wadi Nakher located inside Oman’s deepest canyon.
As we enter the Jebel Akhdar, we will arrive at Jebel Shams, Oman’s highest peak which offers a spectacular view and then down the mountain to the city of Nizwa, the birthplace of Islam in the Sultanate of Oman. Nizwa Souq is renowned for its intricately hand-carved ‘Khanjars’ (ceremonial daggers) and ornamental silver jewellery. You will enjoy an overnight stay at the Falaj Daris Hotel in Nizwa.
Please be advised that visitors should carry their own picnic lunch.
DAY 02 - Nizwa & Wahiba & Wadi Bani Khalid & Sur
Begins with an early breakfast before departing at 8.00am. On the way to the Wahiba Sands, a vast mass of undulating red and white sea of sand and dunes which rise up to 200 metres, and home to a variety of flora and fauna, we will visit a traditional Bedouin home and experience the ever-changing patterns of the dunes, which are a photographer’s delight. Lunch is not provided but we will stop at the Al Sharqiyah Sands hotel where food can be purchased.
This wilderness is contrasted by the lushness of Wadi Bani Khalid with a series of small picturesque villages embedded in the mountains. From there, we will head to Sur in time for dinner and an overnight stay at Sur Plaza Hotel.
